She just had to wear that dress, didn't she?

She just had to wear that bloody Elven dress. The rust-colored one with the low neckline. The one that clung to every curve of her body. The one that made his mind wander to thoughts he really shouldn't be having here at her Coming of Age birthday party. Thoughts that usually ended up with her without the dress...

He spent the rest of the party trying not to think about things like that, throwing himself into conversations with distant relatives to get his mind off of her and that dress. But even across a crowded room she could enchant him.

When evening came and the Hall was lit by the light of hundreds of candles, Ivy took his hand and pulled him away from the party, down the hallway to her father's study.

"I don't think we should be in here," he said, stopping in the doorway.

"I want to spend some time alone with you!" she laughed, pulling him into the study. She dragged him over to a chair, pushed him down, then settled herself on his lap. "And my father's study is the one place we can be alone and no one will suspect us of doing anything." She leaned in to whisper in his ear, her warm breath in his hair. "And you do want to do things, don't you Mr. Took? I've seen you watching me all evening."

He let out a shuddering breath. He wanted her so much it hurt. He wanted to slip his hands under the silk of the dress to explore the silk of her skin. But not yet. "Soon," he said. "Five more months..."

She smiled and kissed him, then settled into his arms, her head resting on his shoulder, and sighed.
