Hours! His son was hours old and he’d only just learned about his birth.
“Where is she?” Pippin asked, keeping his gaze on the baby in his arms. He had worried about loving this child he’d had to create with Diamond, but he’d fallen in love at first sight.
“In the bath,” Pearl said, not even trying to hide her contempt. “She didn’t even tell us, Pip. I only caught one of her cousins asking for linens. She’d even threatened Lily not to say anything. I sent for you as soon as we found out she’d given birth.”
“I know,” Pippin said and smiled at her. He knew his sisters wouldn’t have kept this from him if they’d known.
“She refused to nurse him,” Pearl said coldly. “We had to use that bottle.”
Pippin nodded, feeling guilty. That was partly his fault. Diamond had pestered him about it and he’d gotten Ivy’s old bottle from Crickhollow. He had hoped she would change her mind once the baby was here. He should have known better.
But they would deal with all that later. His son was here! “Hello, Faramir,” he murmured. He kissed the baby’s head and smiled. “I’m your dad.”
